Smart meters are being trialled as a remote care monitoring system for elderly and disabled people
A project which began trials in 2019 - Smart Meters for Independent Living (SMILE) - are developing and testing AI methods to monitor the smart meters of consenting elderly and disabled residents across Scotland.
It is hoped that analysis will create a view of their daily routines and alert the person and their carer of any changes in behaviour that may indicate problems.
This will be an additional service to complement the traditional push button personal alarm worn by residents – particularly aiding people with dementia and those who may be confused, may forget or be unable to activate their current alarm.
